Neli Morales, BCCP’s Behavioral Health Assistant, was recently awarded a Union Pacific grant for work insuicide prevention. Neli is a recent UNK graduate, and has been working for Community Partners just over a year. She started as an intern and started full time a few months ago.

Morales said she is passionate about the work that Community Partners does for mental wellness and suicide prevention. “I have friends and family members who have suffered, and being able to gain funds to raise awareness of mental wellness feels like a huge accomplishment,” Morales said.

Buffalo County has many resources for mental wellness and suicide prevention. The HealthyMINDS collaborative has been working to promote these resources, especially during the global pandemic. The HealthyMINDS team has been meeting weekly during the first months of the pandemic to decide how to promote mental wellness broadly to the community.

Another group, the Bilingual Community Connectors, has been working to get resources into the hands of community members as well.

Morales said, “Being in the Latino community, I know my friends and family don’t know about all the resources for mental wellness. I am glad we have been working to get this community the resources, as well as getting them translated into their native language.”

Morales has been working with both groups this summer. Both groups meet regularly and are open to community members joining the conversation. If you would like more information on these groups reach out to Neli, assistant@bcchp.org.
