Local Gardeners Invited to Grow Another Row and Help Feed Their Neighbors

KEARNEY, NE. This growing season, local gardeners are being asked to do something simple and powerful: plant an extra row. The Grow Another Row campaign, part of the Buffalo County Community Partners Food Leaders, is rallying home and community gardeners across the area to grow a little extra and donate that harvest to local food pantries, putting fresh, healthy produce in the hands of neighbors who will need it most.

Food pantries consistently report that fresh fruits and vegetables are among the most needed and least donated items they receive. Grow Another Row Buffalo County wants to change that by connecting local gardeners directly with the community resources already working to address food insecurity.

What to Grow

The campaign recommends kid- and family-friendly crops that are easy to grow in abundance and consistently welcomed at food pantries:

• Tomatoes

• Zucchini and summer squash

• Green beans and snap peas

• Cucumbers

• Carrots

• Sweet peppers

• Lettuce, spinach, and kale

How to Participate

Participating is easy. Gardeners are encouraged to:

• Plant at least one extra row (or a few extra seeds) of any crop.

• Let the campaign know they’re participating by emailing GrowAnotherRowBuffaloCounty@gmail.com

• Wait for a harvest-time follow-up with instructions on how and where to donate their extra produce.

Organizers will follow up with registered participants as harvest season approaches to provide drop-off locations, pantry schedules, and any other details needed to make donating easy.
