PhotoVoice is a mentoring program that uses the power of photography to help youth practice and gain skills in creative, constructive self-advocacy, sharing their ideas with others, and participating in discussions about their lived experiences and community matters.
Participants in PhotoVoice will become familiar with digital photography and:
- gain an understanding for ethical standards in photography
- engage in self-advocacy through photography
- identify strengths and weaknesses in their community
- capture, exhibit, and discuss photos, ideas, and community needs with the general public and local policymakers

Apply For a Class
The PhotoVoice program will last 8 weeks, with approximately 6-8 youth participants involved in each program session. Sessions will be held weekly for two hours, and will usually be held at the Buffalo County Community Partners office located in Richard Young Hospital. Participants will have opportunities during each session to collaborate with guest attendants and speakers who may be professionals in photography, writing, advocacy, and/or policymaking. The program will be facilitated by the Buffalo County Community Partners Youth Coordinator.
*Class may require virtual meetings under certain circumstances.
*A pretest and post test may be required for participation.
